One of the biggest challenges in healthcare is patient identification and record management. Patients often visit multiple facilities, resulting in fragmented health records. The Universal Health ID (UHID) aims to solve this challenge by providing every individual with a unique healthcare identifier. With UHID, patient records can be securely linked across participating healthcare facilities. This reduces duplication, improves diagnosis accuracy, and enables healthcare providers to access relevant medical history when needed. The system is designed with privacy and security at its core. Patients maintain ownership of their health information while healthcare providers access data only through authorized channels. By implementing UHID, Uganda can move toward a truly connected healthcare ecosystem that improves outcomes for patients and providers alike.
